Custom MX and A Records
See what MX records and A records are, how they affect your sites and how to change them.
Every single registered domain name has at least 2 Name Server records that show where it is hosted i.e. by using these records you point your domain name to the servers of a certain web hosting provider. In this way, you have both your site and your emails handled by the same service provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), on the other hand, there is a variety of other records, such as A and MX. The former shows which server manages the website for a given domain name and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one shows which server deals with the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an illustration, whenever you type a domain address in your web browser, your request is directed through the global DNS system to the company whose NS records the domain name uses and from there you will be forwarded to the servers of a different service provider if you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain name. Having different records for the website and the emails means you could have your website and your e-mails with two different companies if you'd like.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Hosting
If you have a
Linux cloud hosting plan through our company, you'll be able to view, create and change any A or MX record for your Internet addresses. Provided that a particular Internet domain has our Name Servers, you're going to be able to change particular records using our Hepsia hosting CP and have your website or emails directed to another service provider if you'd like to use only one of our services. Our sophisticated tool will even allow you to have a domain address hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted somewhere else by modifying only its A record - this will not affect the main domain address the slightest bit. If you decide to use the e-mail services of another service provider and they want you to create more than two MX records, you can easily do this with simply a few clicks within the DNS Records section of your CP. You may also set different latency for each MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
Accessing and modifying the A or MX records for any one of your domains or subdomains is very easy if you buy a
semi-dedicated server plan through our company. The accounts are maintained using our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which features a section devoted to the DNS records of your domain addresses. The latter is going to be listed alphabetically and you could click on each of them to see both the A and the MX records. Changing any record will be as easy as entering the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even though you may have never dealt with such matters before, you simply won't encounter any problems if you choose to switch your website or e-mails to an alternative provider while keeping the second service with our company. If needed, you can also set up additional MX records and set a certain priority based on the instructions of the new provider.
