Varnish
Learn just what Varnish is. Discover more about web accelerators and their role.
Varnish is a content caching platform, which is sometimes referred to as an HTTP reverse proxy. It is a website accelerator that can increase the loading speed of a site by up to 1000%, depending on the content itself. Whenever a visitor accesses any page on a website that uses Varnish, the platform caches the page and delivers it instead of the web server when the visitor opens it again. Thus, the browser request from the visitor is not processed by the web server and the page will load tremendously faster, as the Varnish platform can serve content many times faster than any web server software. The end result is a significantly faster loading website, which leads to an improved website browsing experience. In case any of the cached webpages is updated on the live site, the information that Varnish saves in its system memory is updated too, so the site visitors won’t see old information.

Varnish in Cloud Hosting
If you host your websites under a
cloud hosting account with our company, you’ll be able to activate Varnish with a few clicks of the mouse through your hosting Control Panel. The caching platform is offered as an upgrade with all our hosting plans and you can choose the number of the sites that will use it and the total storage space that will be available for the cached data. The two upgradeable features in the Control Panel’s Upgrades section are the number of instances and the amount of system memory and they aren’t tied directly to each other, so you can decide if you want lots of memory for one single large-sized site or less memory for several smaller ones. You can take advantage of the full potential of the Varnish caching platform if the sites use a dedicated IP address. With the Control Panel, you can swiftly start/restart/discontinue an instance, clear the cached files individually for each website that uses Varnish or check a detailed system log file.

Varnish in Semi-dedicated Servers
All our
Linux semi-dedicated servers come with Varnish by default, so you can use the web app accelerator tool and speed up any site that you host on our platform. You will get 64 megabytes of memory exclusively for the Varnish accelerator at no additional cost and you will be able to add an instance with no more than a few mouse clicks via the Hepsia Control Panel, which comes with the semi-dedicated server packages. If you want more memory, the latter is offered in increments of 32 megabytes through the Upgrades section of the Control Panel and it will be available to you instantly. You can also add more instances as a separate upgrade, so you can decide if lots of data will be cached for a single site or if the available memory will be used by multiple Internet sites. Hepsia will enable you to reboot or to shut down any instance, to see the system log file associated with it or to clear the cached content using one-click buttons. To get the most out of Varnish, you can set a dedicated IP address for the websites that will employ it.

Varnish in VPS Servers
You can take full advantage of the load balancing capabilities of Varnish with any of our
Linux VPS servers if you select Hepsia as your web hosting Control Panel. The platform comes by default and the system memory that it will be able to utilize to cache the content of your websites depends on the given VPS plan that you’ve chosen, but even with the lower-end plans, you’ll have no less than several hundred megabytes of memory at your disposal exclusively for caching purposes. This amount is enough to optimize the work of numerous websites. It’ll take a little time for you to see the results, as Varnish caches the content that visitors access, but shortly thereafter you’ll notice the considerably decreased load on the server and the enhanced website browsing speed. The Varnish platform will allow you to use a lower-end VPS plan for sites that would normally require a more pricey hosting service.

Varnish in Dedicated Servers
You can employ Varnish to improve the loading speed of any website that’s hosted on a
dedicated server from our company if the Hepsia hosting Control Panel is installed on the machine. Not only will you get the data caching platform ready for use at no additional charge, but you will also have total control over it via the Hepsia Control Panel’s intuitive interface. It will take just one mouse click to start or disable an instance or to clear the cached files for any Internet site that is using Varnish and if you are more tech-savvy, you can also check the platform’s logs. Varnish comes with no less than 3 gigabytes of virtual memory for content caching purposes, so even in case you run lots of websites on your dedicated machine and they all use the Varnish platform, the difference in their performance will be observable. You will just need to wait for a little while until Varnish caches whatever web pages the website visitors open on their end. The Varnish platform works best when the websites use a dedicated IP, but since our dedicated servers come with 3 free-of-cost IP addresses, you will have all that you need.
